Pernilla Winberg (b.1986), a Swedish artist driven by a profound connection to narratives and compelling images.
By leaving comfort behind, she challenges the security of her hometown, with her art serving as a reflection of the pursuit of adventure. In the course of this journey, a profound love for the vast world develops, accompanied by a yearning for a secure place to belong. Winberg discovers that her artistic exploration leads her back to Sweden – an enduring sanctuary and the very essence of safety, thus completing her creative journey.
Her often movements scenes draw inspiration from a wide range of photographic source materials, documentaries, imagery, memories, and period interiors are recurrent elements within her works.
In the realm between disintegrated figurations and conceptual storytelling, Winberg's art seamlessly blends figurative expressions with environmental elements. Recognizable figures intertwine with abstract and surreal components, all rooted in conceptual neo-expressionism. This fusion crafts a dreamlike yet evocative visual experience, utilizing bright and dark contrasts, movement, and distortion to challenge conventional perceptions of reality.
Embracing glitches and imperfections, Winberg transforms these elements into cohesive narratives, celebrating the beauty found in flaws and the unexpected. Her figures, invite personal interpretation and emotional resonance, appearing fragmented or distorted to enhance their impact.
Pernilla Winberg's art invites viewers into a world where the familiar and fantastical coexist, with the environment playing a crucial role in shaping the narrative and emotional impact.
